even though the carpet scratched
I laid in electric’s bed
enclosed in her ancient stain
I slept the light away
I didn’t feel the wind
I didn’t smell the grass
instead stale air shifted
and multicolored wires held my hands
electric chose her appliances
the toaster toasted air
the television told me lies
and all the ice trays melted
I just happened to lay there
when the light was finally gone
so was electric
and her ancient stain made new
